Who We Are

Datacraft operates at the intersection of architecture and consequence: the point where a build-vs-buy decision determines whether 73 million people get registered to vote, a platform architecture determines whether a continent's intelligence agencies can share threat data, and a technology design makes a $4.5 billion investment viable.

We are three capabilities in one firm. First, a product engineering house: eighteen production products spanning national security, payments, education, industry, and the law, all built, tested, and operated by the same senior team. Second, a nation-scale delivery organisation: the leadership that delivered Africa's largest-ever IT deployment, digitized a national judiciary, and launched Google's operational presence in West Africa. Third, a capital and transaction advisory practice: the architecture-led deal-making that has structured over $4.5 billion in investment across venture, joint-venture, and infrastructure transactions.

These are not three departments; they are one method. The technology is never a support function to the deal, and the deal is never an afterthought to the technology. The architecture is the investment thesis.

"We build what hasn't been built before, at scales where failure affects millions."— Nyimbi K. Odero, Founder & CEO

Why Datacraft Exists

Datacraft was founded in 2017 from a frustration earned over two prior decades inside Africa's most consequential institutions: security agencies, courts, electoral commissions, banks, and schools were running on systems designed for someone else's problems. Enterprise software imported from Europe or the United States arrived with assumptions baked in: reliable broadband, single-currency ledgers, English-first interfaces, annual release cycles. None of those assumptions held across Nairobi, Kampala, Accra, or Dakar, and the software failed the way imported software fails: not spectacularly, but quietly and constantly, eroding trust in digital systems across the continent.

Our answer was engineering pragmatism: if the right software does not exist, build it. Build it in Nairobi, deploy it in Nairobi, and earn the right to take it elsewhere only after it has survived contact with the real conditions of African operations: intermittent connectivity, multi-currency treasuries, multilingual workforces, and regulatory environments that evolve faster than release cycles. A decade later, that discipline has produced a portfolio hardened in environments where a dropped transaction is not a support ticket; it is a due-process failure, a missed payment, or an unprotected witness.

What We Do

1 · Software & Systems Engineering

We design, build, and operate mission-critical platforms end to end: multi-tenant intelligence systems accredited to ICD 503 / NIST 800-53 / ISO 27001 standards; a multi-rail payment switch with sub-100 ms authorization, native ISO 8583 and ISO 20022, and post-quantum cryptography; AI-powered industrial inspection; national-scale education management aligned to Kenya's CBC curriculum; and the connective infrastructure (identity, authorization, observability, document intelligence) that makes a portfolio behave like a platform. Our engineering standard is unusual for the region and uncommon anywhere: tens of thousands of automated tests gate every release, critical state machines are formally verified with TLA+ model checking, and compliance evidence (PCI DSS v4, SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR/ODPC) is generated continuously in CI rather than assembled annually for auditors.

2 · Capital Formation & Transaction Advisory

Datacraft's leadership has raised, structured, and saved capital across every instrument that matters in African infrastructure: venture capital, private equity, joint ventures, vendor and project finance, and the build-vs-buy decisions that are a capital decision in disguise. Our distinctive position is that we underwrite technology risk from the inside, as the architects, which lets us structure transactions investors can believe: revenue models de-risked by design, capex reduced by architecture, and diligence answered with running systems rather than projections. The record is on the next page.

3 · Nation-Scale Delivery & Systems Integration

Products and capital only matter if delivery lands. Datacraft's team has fielded 132,000 machines and trained 240,000 field staff for a national registration exercise; sequenced a judiciary-wide digital rollout to 93% station adoption; and launched a global company's West Africa operations through coalition-building with telcos, universities, and regulators. We know how to deliver into ministries, armed forces, central banks, county governments, and rural districts, because we have done it, repeatedly, in nine nations.

The Deal Sheet

Selected transactions and capital outcomes architected or led by Datacraft's leadership. Together they demonstrate fluency across the capital stack: venture, JV/private capital, project structuring, and capital preservation, all anchored in technical architecture.

Kebulania — Africa's largest creative-sector investment (JV with Singapore's TSC Global)$4.5BJoint venture / private capitalLead technical architect. Paired a 50,000 sqm hyperscale data centre with 1 GW clean energy to create a dual-revenue model (production fees + AI compute) that de-risks the investment. Projected 10,000+ jobs and $3.5B annual economic contribution. The architecture is the deal thesis.
The Plex, Lagos — gov-tech and innovation platform$206MInfrastructure investmentDesigned as a platform, not a building: secure multi-tenancy lets government, commercial tenants, and innovation hubs share infrastructure with classified data separation, cutting per-tenant cost ~40%.
INEC Nigeria — national voter registration$100M+ savedBuild-vs-buy capital decisionAs CTO, rejected turnkey vendor quotes that would have consumed the entire budget on hardware; built a custom Linux/C++/Qt stack instead, fielding 132,000 units and registering 73.5M citizens — Africa's largest-ever IT deployment. The register remains the foundation of Nigeria's electoral roll.

Unity Bank Plc — post-merger integration≈$120M in data-quality savingsM&A technical consolidationConsolidated 9 banks and 12 accounting systems in 3 months; the technical diligence and consolidation work that makes bank M&A arithmetic real.
Google West Africa (GUAP)9-country programmeCoalition / capital-efficient structuringStructured the Google University Access Programme as a multi-stakeholder coalition of MTN fiber, MainOne concessionary bandwidth, and university campuses — keeping Google's own capital outlay minimal relative to impact.
Operating companies built — Routeworx, Technology Support Center, MindSmith, and others$10M ARR; $30M in 8 months; IP exit $950KFounder equity / trade saleFive technology companies built against structural gaps: carrier-grade VoIP grown to $10M annual revenue; education technology serving Nigeria's school computerization mandate to NGN 3B in 8 months; first automated newspaper-to-web platform in East Africa with billing IP sold for $950K.

What this means for partners and investors: Datacraft can take a venture from architecture through fundable structure to delivered system, and has done so at every scale from a $12M VC round to a $4.5B joint venture. We speak the languages of the term sheet and the codebase natively, and we have saved clients more in avoided licensing and consolidation costs than most advisories bill in fees.

Eighteen Products, One Platform

Every Datacraft product runs on a shared platform layer (unified identity and fine-grained authorization, an AI gateway, vector search, observability, and document intelligence), so each product ships with enterprise capabilities that would take a standalone vendor years to accrete. All products carry full audit trails, role-based access control, and offline-first resilience as a floor, not a feature.

Continental Coverage, Global Standards

Datacraft is African by headquarters and conviction, and global by delivery. Our team has built and operated systems in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and across the IGAD and EASF regions, with engagements and infrastructure spanning the Gulf and MENA, Israel, India, Singapore, and the United States: from a development centre in Gurgaon to a joint venture with Singapore's TSC Global to an MIT Sloan-trained executive bench. Today the firm supports 150+ client organisations across 12+ nations, with regional intelligence deployments serving mandates that span Eastern and Central Africa.

That combination matters. Global standards without African context produce the imported failures we were founded to replace; African context without global standards produces systems that cannot survive an ICD 503 accreditation, a PCI QSA, or an EU observer mission. Datacraft's entire history is the proof that you can hold both.

Nyimbi K. Odero — Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Technology executive, systems architect, and intelligence-systems leader with over 30 years building sovereign-scale infrastructure across government, defence, intelligence, finance, telecom, and creative technology in nine African nations. The career in one arc: five technology companies built against structural gaps in emerging African markets; Google's West Africa launch; Africa's largest-ever IT deployment (73.5M biometric registrations as CTO of Nigeria's electoral commission); the digitization of Kenya's judiciary as ICT Advisor to the Chief Justice; a 12-month group turnaround mandate spanning a $4.5B JV and a $206M platform investment; and now Datacraft, where the products in this profile were created.

The CEO leads a deliberately small, senior team: architecture, product, and engineering leads with deep roots in African enterprise infrastructure. The people who design the software are the people who talk to clients; there are no layers in between.
